The story that was...

Everyone who has followed me here knows how much I loved my Dad. When he was alive, my vote was on autopilot for the NDC. Chale, my dad would get upset if you suggested you were going to vote for the NPP. My mum just used to tease him about voting for the NPP just to hear his long tirade. In the last 2 elections, I convinced myself that as an intellectual that I voted for the NDC because I felt change was needed after 8 years of the NPP and the NDDC needed 8 years to fulfil its promises. I remember saying to my roommates in 2012 that I would vote for a different party after every 8 years. I guess I was not being true to myself. Perhaps I was but the situation was different in this election. The NDC had 8 years and John Mahama 4. I felt the developmental infrastructure started was going to stall with a change in government and I really needed Kasoa where I stayed for the better part of my life, 18 years to be precise to go through its needed transformation but then all the ...

The Shadower’s Shadower

Image
I would call them the "shadower's shadower" because they shadow for the shadower. I am talking about the self-appointed shadowers at various bus stops who have decided to autonomously subcontract one of the key functions of the trotro mate.  So these guys usually stand after traffic lights at major bus stops and even before the bus gets there, they choose which troski to shadow for. Overtime, some of them have built relationships with some drivers and they become sole shadowers of certain trotros. The try to get passengers for trotros at bus stops and all they need is the voices to yell the various destinations. Woe betides you if after filling your trotro you decide to best them by driving off because you did not ask them to get you the passengers. They would jump and attach themselves to the trotro and in case the...

2 years on... It's been 2 years since you passed on to eternity. I know usually people say the year has come by so fast but for me, it seems like an eternity. Since I last wrote to you, so much has happened. I finished my MPhil in Sociology and then I got married. Yes! Just like you emphasized all the time. Ok. I am not totally done with the MPhil because my thesis has not returned yet from meeting with the examiners. I hope my examiners are reasonable because I did put in some good work. Yes. Back to the getting married part. I know right. The last time I wrote to you, exactly a year ago, I told you I had met Kojo who happens to share the same day name with you. Only yours is Kwadzo. Fast forward to July 16th and Kojo gave me the honour to be his wife. It was unbelievable. When I wrote to you last year I did not have an inkling of what was to come. I missed you a lot the week to the wedding and at odd times when I was alone, I would cry as mummy kept mentioning yo...
